Parking in Tel Aviv is managed through a zone system and is notoriously difficult in the city centre.
Blue-and-White Zones
Paid on-street parking is marked by blue-and-white kerbs:
- Zone A: City centre (Rothschild, Allenby, Ben Yehuda) — ~8.60 NIS/hour
- Zone B: Surrounding neighbourhoods (Florentin, Lev HaIr) — ~6.40 NIS/hour
- Hours: Sun–Thu 8:00–19:00, Fri 8:00–13:00
- Free: Evenings, all day Saturday, and public holidays
- Maximum stay: 2 hours in most central zones
Payment
- Pango app — the most popular parking app in Israel (download in advance)
- Cellcom Park, HopOn — alternative payment apps
- Parking meters — accept coins and credit cards
- SMS — to the number on zone signs
Parking Garages
Numerous underground and multi-storey car parks:
- Azrieli Center — 15–25 NIS/hour
- Parking Center (Rothschild Blvd) — 15–20 NIS/hour
- Reading Parking Lot (near port) — free but requires bus connection to centre
- Tel Aviv Port parking — 15–20 NIS/hour
- Monthly passes available at most garages: ~900–1,500 NIS/month
Residential Permits
Residents in blue-white zones can apply for annual permits from the Tel Aviv Municipality:
- Cost: ~200–500 NIS/year depending on zone
- Limit: 1 permit per address (with discounts for electric vehicles)
- Applies only to the resident’s designated parking zone
Tips
- Parking in central Tel Aviv is very difficult — use the Light Rail or a taxi
- Many buildings have underground parking for residents
- The municipality enforces parking strictly — fines are ~200–500 NIS
- Red kerbs = no parking at any time (emergency/fire lanes)
- Disabled parking (nakhes) spaces are reserved with blue signs
- On Fridays (Erev Shabbat), parking becomes free from 13:00
